Penvar helps conservation and environmental organisations put AI to work.
01What Penvar does
Penvar coaches staff in using AI tools in their daily work. Sessions are hands on and mostly remote. We work on the tasks people already have open, at a pace that fits around the job.
Penvar also advises leadership teams on adopting AI across an organisation: what to take on, in what order, and what to leave alone. Technical with teams, strategic with leadership. This is coaching and mentoring, not a training course.
02Who it is for
Penvar works with conservation and environmental nonprofits, from field and science teams through to directors and trustees.
03Who is Penvar
Penvar is Craig Mills. I am Director of Global Nature Watch at the World Resources Institute. Before that I was CEO of Vizzuality and Head of Informatics at UNEP-WCMC.
I believe conservation and environmental organisations have a huge opportunity to do more with artificial intelligence, and that seizing it will not come from reading the hype or listening to the doom-mongers. It will come from practical, hands-on experience with the tools, for everyone from the leaders of organisations to their scientists. I am acting on that belief myself, building AI software and teams that work with AI to speed up how conservation delivers impact.
Penvar is deliberately small. It exists to offer my knowledge and experience for a few hours a week, one conservation organisation at a time.
